Shapers of Worlds
Good news! I’ve finished the short story that will be included in the Shapers of Worlds anthology—tentatively titled “The Knack of Flying.” The title, if it’s allowed to stand, comes from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: “There is an art to flying, or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. …”
For Lewis Protheroe, who doesn’t throw himself at anything without carefully sizing it up and running a few financial projections, love is a bit like this. The knack lies in having the courage to take that leap even though he’s taken it before and missed, with pain and heartbreak the result.
I hope that if you can, you might decide to become a backer for this Kickstarter project. The lineup is amazing: new fiction by Seanan McGuire, Tanya Huff, L.E. Modesitt, Jr., David Weber, Christopher Ruocchio, David John Butler, John C. Wright, me, and Edward Willett, and reprints from Joe Haldeman, John Scalzi, David Brin, Julie Czerneda, Garth L. Powell, Fonda Lee, Dr. Charles E. Gannon, Derek Kunsken, and Thoraiya Dyer.
So exciting!
Hi Shelley,
Will readers be able to buy Lewis Protheroe’s story in its own story/book?
Also how can I get a copy of “The Rules of Revision
Making Them Work for You”
Hope all is well with the dissertation.
Thank you for your time,
Melissa
Hi Melissa–Lewis’s story in “Shapers of Worlds” is a short story (I still hope you’ll enjoy it, though!). An expanded novella version will be coming out as one of the next quartet of novellas, which are centered around airships and flying machines 🙂
As for “The Rules of Revision,” if you send $8.00 to me via PayPal with your mailing address, I’ll pop one in the mail for you. They’re only usually available from me when I teach that class. Thank you!
Thank you! Sent!
